The first maintenance release for the kernel 4.0 series has been released recently bringing some minor updates and bug fixes. In this tutorial we will see how to upgrade your current kernel to  Linux Kernel 4.0.1 using a simple bash script for easier installation.

  Linux Kernel 4.0.1 Installation

To install Linux kernel 4.0.1 On Ubuntu or Linux Mint, run these commands:

cd /tmp 
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47950494/upubuntu/kernel-4.0.1 
chmod +x kernel-4.0.1 
sudo sh kernel-4.0.1 
sudo reboot

Linux Kernel 4.0.1 Removal (Optional)

To uninstall kernel 4.0.1 and revert back to old kernel, run these commands:

sudo apt-get purge linux.image-4.0.1-* 
sudo update-grub
