In this tutorial we will help you install and build a LAMP server on Ubuntu 14.10. LAMP ( Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) is used to build dynamic web applications and websites. It's available for Linux users as a free and open-source software.

LAMP Installation

Method 1 

Open the terminal and issue this command:

sudo apt-get install lamp-server^ 

After you complete the installation of the LAMP stack, you can verify it by opening one of these two links:

http://localhost/ or

The default page that will appear will look like this one:

If nothing appears, try to run this command:

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

phpMyAdmin Installation

Open the terminal and enter these commands:

sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-auth-mysql phpmyadmin 
sudo ln -s /usr/share/phpmyadmin /var/www/html/

Then you can access phpMyAdmin via one of these two links:

http://localhost/phpmyadmin/  or

Note: the default user is "root" and use the password your set during the installation.

Method 2

You can alternatively install LAMP using Tasksel. To install it run this command in the terminal:

 sudo apt-get -y install tasksel

Then start it with this command:

 sudo tasksel

Select "LAMP server" from the menu that will appear and follow setup instructions:
