In this tutorial, we will see how to install GetDeb and PlayDeb in Ubuntu 13.04/12.10 or older and Linux Mint 15/14 or older. GetDeb and PlayDeb are two websites where users can find free applications and games that are not available in the official Ubuntu repositories.

GetDeb Installation

Open the terminal and enter these commands for both 32-bit & 64-bit systems:

cd /tmp
wget -O getdeb-repository_0.1-1_all.deb http://goo.gl/ScikR
sudo dpkg -i getdeb-repository_0.1-1_all.deb

PlayDeb Installation

cd /tmp
wget -O playdeb_0.3-1_all.deb http://goo.gl/slS92
sudo dpkg -i playdeb_0.3-1_all.deb

Run now an update with this command:

sudo apt-get update

You can now use the terminal or the GetDeb and PlayDeb websites to install apps and games on Ubuntu 13.04/12.10 or older.
