Another release for the kernel 3.8 series has shown up for Ubuntu/Linux Mint systems. Linux Kernel 3.8.4 brings various changes and bug fixes, you can have a look at them here. As usual, we will upgrade to this new kernel using a simple bash script, but the kernel files can be downloaded from here.

Here are some fixes in this latest Kernel:

 Linux Kernel 3.8.4 Installation

Enter these commands from the terminal under Ubuntu/Linux Mint (12.10/12.04/Mint 14/13, etc.):

cd /tmp 
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47950494/upubuntu.com/kernel-3.8.4 -O kernel-3.8.4 
chmod +x kernel-3.8.4 
sudo sh kernel-3.8.4 
sudo reboot

Removing  Linux Kernel 3.8.4

To remove kernel 3.8.4 from your system, enter this command:

sudo apt-get purge linux-image-3.8.4*
