In Linux, there are many good media converters that will help us convert our video and audio files to any other formats we want. Today, we will introduce another media converter called Curlew which comes with an easy-to-use GUI written in Python capable of converting between many audio and video formats because it is based on FFMPEG. The application also offers the possibility to add subtitles to your videos via the Advanced menu options.

Curlew supports more than 100 media formats, here are some of them:

  • MP3 - M4A - 3G2 - WAV - OGG
  • AVI - MP4 - FLV - MOV - MKV - 3GP
  • WMV - Google WebM, etc.

Curlew can also convert files for some portable devices such as iPod, iPhone, Xbox, Nokia, LG, PSP, PS3, etc. The latest version of Curlew is 0.1.12 which brings some new improvements, you can review them here.
