A new Nvida driver has been made available recently which brings new features and bug fixes. This driver release comes in response to Torvalds' critics over the weak support from Nvidia over Linux systems. You can check this page for complete changes in this driver version.

To install the Nvidia display driver 302.17 on Ubuntu 12.04/11.10 or older, open the terminal and issue these commands:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

Restart your system and make sure the driver is successfully installed by running this command:

cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version

glxinfo | grep OpenGL

That's it!
