In this tip, we will see how to use the terminal under Ubuntu 12.04/11.10 or older to convert an image file having the SVG format (Scalable Vector Graphics) to any other image extension of your choice (PNG, JPG, BMP, TIF, etc).

To make this possible, we will use the rsvg command line tool. To install it in Ubuntu, run this command:

sudo apt-get install librsvg2-bin

To convert an SVG image, you can now use this command:

rsvg file.svg file.jpg

file.svg ---> Replace it with your own SVG file name
file.jpg ---> Replace it with any name of your choice followed by the desired image format.

All files will be generated in the current terminal location.

That's it!
