wxCam is a lightweight application that allows users to record video or take snapshots from their computer or laptop built-in webcam. The recorded video will be saved in the avi format (uncompressed format); can be changed in the preferences window. wxCam comes with some interesting video effects including the ability to adjust video colors, adding negative color effects, mirror effects, blur video, etc.
In this page we will help you install wxCam under Ubuntu 11.10/12.04 via PPA. You can install wxCam on older Ubuntu versions by using .deb packages provided in the link given at the end of this article.
wxCam can be installed under Ubuntu 11.10/12.04 with these commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/multimedia
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wxcam
Connect your webcam and turn it on, then start wxCam via the Unity Dash to start video recording or take still pictures:
