How to Log Out of the Current User Session from the Unity Launcher - Ubuntu 11.10/12.04

In this tutorial we will see how to add an icon to the Unity launcher that allows us to logout the current user session under Ubuntu 12.04/11.10. To make the installation easier, I have included all needed files in a PPA.

Getting Started

Open the terminal and run the following commands to install the "logout-session" package:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/apps


sudo apt-get update


sudo apt-get install logout-session

Open now the Unity Dash and search for the "logout-session" icon and drag and drop it in any place into your launcher:

You can now easily logout the current user session from the Unity launcher with a single click:
