The AMD Catalyst™ 12.4 proprietary Linux x86 display driver has been released since few hours. Details about AMD Catlayst 12.4 for Linux are scarce, but here are some of the new features and improvements in this latest release:

  • Early-look support for Ubuntu 12.04
  • Some multi-head problems have been fixed
  • Support of Linux PowerXpress for Intel's Ivy Bridge platform
  • Some bug fixes

AMD Catalyst 12.4 Installation

Uninstall firstly the current AMD driver with these two commands:

 sudo sh /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh

 sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev* xorg-driver-fglrx

Start now the installation of ATI Catalyst 12.4 with these commands under Ubuntu 12.04/11.10 or older:

cd ~/; mkdir catalyst12.4; cd catalyst12.4/

wget -O amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run http://goo.gl/VGYWP

chmod +x amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run

sudo sh ./amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run

Then follow setup instructions:

 Run next this command to finish the installation:

sudo aticonfig --initial -f

Then reboot your system:

sudo reboot
