The VIM text editor is configured by default to display text, codes, extensions, etc. in colors. This feature is not favored by some users and want to use a single color (white) for displayed text. To disable text color formatting for VIM under Ubuntu, follow these instructions:

1. Open the terminal and edit the /etc/vim/vimrc file with this command:

sudo gedit /etc/vim/vimrc

2. At the end of the file, add this line:

syntax off

3. Press Ctrl+Q and save your file. Changes are instantaneous, no need to reboot.

From now on, text in the VIM text editor will be displayed in a single color (white).
