In this tip we will see how to use the terminal under Ubuntu to generate messages (titles, phrases, text logos, etc.) using FIGlet, which is a command line utility that displays in the terminal messages with large characters. The generated message can be copied and pasted in emails, forums, and social networking websites (Facebook, Google+, etc.) as a signature or use it in whatever you want.

To install FIGlet under Ubuntu (12.04/11.10 or older), open the terminal and run this command:

sudo apt-get install figlet

To generate a message, run this command as example:

figlet "UPUBUNTU"

Replace UPUBUNTU with any message of your choice. You can now copy your message and use it elsewhere. For more information about FIGlet, run this command:

man figlet
