If you find difficulties installing the latest stable version of Google Chrome or Chromium under Ubuntu using the provided Debian packages, then installing via PPA will be recommended. Some users have been presented with an error during the installation of Chrome / Chromium via the Ubuntu Software Center due to missing dependencies.

To install Google Chrome / Chromium  under Ubuntu 11.10/12.04, open the terminal and run this sequence of commands:

sudo apt-get install libxss1 libcurl3 libnspr4 libnss3-1d

wget -q -O - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | sudo apt-key add -

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google.list'

sudo apt-get update

Then install Google Chrome with this command:

sudo apt-get install google-chrome-stable

To install Chromium in Ubuntu, run this command:

sudo apt-get install chromium-browser

That's it!
