Some users prefer to see a location bar with full path displayed of the current browsed directory under the Nautilus file manager. This feature was disabled by default under Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.
This article will show you how to restore the Nautilus location bar using simply a command from the terminal. If you prefer to bring up the location bar temporarily in nautilus, you can simply browse any folder and press Ctrl+L. To make it permanent, you can enable the location bar with this command:
gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry true
To disable it, run this command:
gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry false
