Replace-me is a simple nautilus extension that allows users to batch search and replace words and phrases across multiple files from the nautilus context menu. Consider having hundreds of files that contain words or sentences that you want to replace with another, the task will be tedious and much time will be wasted in editing each file separately, so this tool will be very handy.

To install the Replace-me extension under Ubuntu 11.10/11.04, open the terminal and run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/nautilus-extensions
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install replace-me

Restart now nautilus with this command:

nautilus -q

To use this nautilus extension, right-click on any file(s) and select "Replace string in files":

Enter now the string you want to replace followed by the new text, then hit OK to confirm:

That's it!
