In this tip we will see a cool nautilus script that allows to shred files on Ubuntu from the right-click menu. Shredding files means that the file will be removed permanently from your computer without the possibility to recover it.

To make this possible we will use the script from this link. To install it on Ubuntu, you need to follow these instructions:

Open the terminal and run these commands to install this script:

wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47950494/Shred%20File
mv "Shred File" ~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts
chmod +x ~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts/"Shred File"

To shred a file, right-click it and select Scripts > Shred File, then confirm by clicking YES:

The file will now be deleted permanently.
