Since the release of Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot, creating a desktop shortcut to your favorite applications from the right-click menu is not possible and users have to look for alternative methods for creating desktop shortcuts, we have already covered some of these methods which can be checked here:

- Create Desktop Shortcut - Ubuntu 11.10
- Desktop Shortcut - Nautilus Script

Today, I will show you another method that consists of adding a "Create Launcher" option to your context menu using Nautilus-Actions, a nautilus configuration tool for adding various actions to the right-click menu.

Getting Started

1. Launch Nautilus-Actions and create a new action.

2. Under the Action tab, check on "Display item in location context menu", then in Context label, enter this: Create Launcher.

3. Open now the Command tab and enter the following details:

Label: Create Launcher
Path:  gnome-desktop-item-edit
Parameters:  gnome-desktop-item-edit --create-new ~/Desktop %x
Working directory:  Click Browse and select your Desktop folder.

4. Save now your command and exit:

5. If the command hasn't shown up in your right-click menu, you can restart nautilus with this command from the terminal:

nautilus -q

6. You can now add desktop shortcuts from the context menu by selecting Create Launcher under Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot:

That's it!
