In the last article we have seen how to install the Canon Pixma iP1800/ iP1900 Series on Ubuntu 11.10/11.04. Today we will see another series of Canon printers: Pixus Series. We will use the PPA found here to install these drivers.

Before we start, make sure you have uninstalled any non-functional driver for your printer model and that your printer is turned off. The list of printers we will install are as follows:

Pixus 550 - Pixus 560 - Pixus 850 - Pixus 860  - Pixus 865 - Pixus 950 - Pixus 990 - Canon Pixus ip3100 - Canon Pixus ip4100 - Canon Pixus ip8600

First, open the terminal and install this PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon
sudo apt-get update

Then install the appropriate driver from one of these commands:

- Pixus 550 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixus550iseries

- Pixus 560 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixus560iseries

- Pixus 850 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixus850iseries

- Pixus 860 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixus860iseries

- Pixus 865 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixus865iseries

- Pixus 950 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixus950iseries

- Pixus 990 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixus990iseries

- Canon Pixus ip3100 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixusip3100series

- Canon Pixus ip4100 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixusip4100series

- Canon Pixus ip8600 Series:

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-pixusip8600series

After installing the appropriate driver for your printer model, turn on your printer and the driver will be detected and installed automatically. If it's not the case, then add it manually as described in this previous guide.

Good luck!
