We have seen before how to install and enable the Faenza icon theme on Ubuntu 11.10. Today we will see another elegant icon theme for Ubuntu called FaenK, which we will help you install and enable on Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.


The FaenK icon theme will give a different and impressive look for your desktop. This icon theme comes in three different color flavors (Blue, black, and gray) and can be set alongside with other icon themes like Faenza, KFaenza, or any other icon theme.

FaenK Icon Theme Installation

Under Ubuntu 11.10, open the terminal and run these commands to install the FaenK icon theme:

cd /tmp
wget -O faenk_folders.zip http://goo.gl/hJrbz
unzip faenk_folders.zip
sudo tar -xzvf FaenKfolder-black.tar.gz -C /usr/share/icons
sudo tar -xzvf FaenKfolder-blue.tar.gz -C /usr/share/icons
sudo tar -xzvf FaenKfolder-gray.tar.gz -C /usr/share/icons

Enabling The FaenK Icon Theme

1. For blue FaenK icons, run this command:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme 'FaenKfolder-blue'

2. For black FaenK icons, use this command:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme 'FaenKfolder-black'

3. For gray FaenK icons, issue this command:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme 'FaenKfolder-gray'
