Owners of Canon Pixma  iP1800 and iP1900 series printers will now be able to install their printer driver using PPA. In this guide, we will help you install Canon printer drivers for both  iP1800 and iP1900 series under Ubuntu 11.04/11.10, for other printer models, please check this page.

Canon iP1800 Series 

Open the terminal under Ubuntu 11.04/11.1 and run these commands to install printer drivers:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-ip1800series

Canon iP1900 Series

Open the terminal and run these command:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-ip1900series

Adding Printer Driver (Ubuntu 11.10/11.04)

Once you connect and power on your printer under Ubuntu 11.10/11.04, its driver will be installed automatically. If it's not added automatically, then do the following:

1. Click the power button and select Printers under Ubuntu 11.10:



For Ubuntu 11.04, open Printing using the Unity dash:



2. Click Add:



3. Select your canon printer from the list of devices and click Forward.



4.  The wizard will now search and install the appropriate driver for your printer.



5. For Canon iP1800 series, you must see this window once the driver is detected:



For Canon iP1900 series, you must see this window:



Click Apply to finish.

5. You can print a test page to try your printer. Your printer is now ready for use!
