In this tip we will see how to enable or disable the auto hide mode for the Unity 2D Launcher under Ubuntu 11.10. This will be possible with the help of "dconf-tools".

Open the terminal and install Dconf-Tools with this command:

sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

Verify now the Unity 2D options using this command:

dconf list /com/canonical/unity-2d/launcher/

Here is the output you must get:

To disable the auto-hide mode, run this command from the terminal:

dconf write /com/canonical/unity-2d/launcher/use-strut true

The launcher will now stick to the screen and won't hide. To re-enable the auto-hide feature, run now this command:

dconf write /com/canonical/unity-2d/launcher/use-strut 0

That's it!
