In this tutorial we will help you access shared folders of the host machine under a virtualized version of Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) using VirtualBox. In the last tutorial, we have seen how to do this under Ubuntu 11.04, you can check it here.

Get Started

1. Let's first create a shared folder. Therefore, open Ubuntu 11.10 using VirtualBox and head to Devices > Shared Folders:

2. Add now a shared folder, provide its path, name, etc. Then, click OK:

3. Under Ubuntu 11.10, open the terminal and run this command to add your username to the "vboxsf" group:

sudo usermod -a -G vboxsf username

Replace "username" with your own username account.

4.  Reboot now your system and then access the /media folder to check and browse shared folders. Shared folders always begin with these two initial letters and an underscore: sf_

That's it!
