Avast! is a free antivirus program with anti-spyware protection that has features you can find in other paid antivirus programs. A new version of Avast! for Linux systems (Avast! Linux Home Edition v1.3.0) has been rolled out, so we will see in this tutorial how to install Avast! on Ubuntu 11.10/11.04.

Avast! Installation

Launch the Terminal and run these commands to download and install Avast!:

wget http://files.avast.com/files/linux/avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb

Launch now Avast! using the dash:

To be able to use Avast! for free, click the link saying "Click here to obtain license key":

Select a browser from the dropdown menu and click OK.

The registration page will open, fill in all required fields, then click Register free license.

Your license key will be sent by email within 24 hours. If received, use it to register Avast! for free.
