Wicd is a networking manager that provides users with a simple and flexible user interface for configuring and connecting to wired and wireless networks. Wicd supports many encryption schemes such as WEP, WPA, and WPA2.

To install Wicd Network Manager on Ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04, run this command from the Terminal:

 sudo apt-get install wicd-gtk

To start Wicd Network Manager, search "wicd" using the dash:

In the main interface of Wicd, you can manage and configure your wired and wireless networks. If there are no wireless networks displayed, then click Preferences and add "wlan0" without quotes in the Wireless interface box, then click OK:

To display now available wireless networks, click the Refresh button:

To configure your network connections, click simply the Properties button for each displayed wired or wireless connection.
