How To Lock/Unlock CD/DVD Eject Button On Ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04


In this tip, we will see how to lock/unlock the eject button of your CD/DVD drive. The advantages of locking your eject button are:

  • The CD/DVD drive will not eject when the eject button is pressed accidentally (inside your bag, for example)
  • Prevent other people from using your optical drive, etc.
To lock your eject button on Ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04, issue this command from the Terminal:

 eject -i 1

Your optical drive eject button is now locked. To unlock it, run simply this command:

 eject -i 0

That's it.
