When plugging a USB drive under Ubuntu, a window will pop up automatically showing your media content. If you find this behavior annoying, then follow these simple instructions to disable automount of USB drives on Ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04:

1. Launch the Terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run this command to disable automount:

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount_open false

2. If you want to re-enable automount, then use this command:

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount_open true

That's it!
