In this tip, we will see how to create a desktop shortcut to a web page on Ubuntu so that you can access your favorite websites and links more rapidly. The tip is applicable on ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04.

Get Started

1. On an empty space on your desktop, make a right-click and select Create Launcher.

2. Give any name of your choice, then in the command field, submit the URL of the web page you want to open preceded by the browser name:

To open the shortcut using Firefox, then use this command:

firefox http://www.url.com

To open it with Google Chrome, then use this command:

google-chrome http://www.url.com

3. To change your shortcut icon, click the small image frame and select any icon from your hard drive.

4. When done, click OK.

5. Your shortcut is now ready, once you double-click it, it will open in the selected web address.
