HandBrake is a tool that allows Ubuntu users via a GUI to convert DVDs and some other video formats into MPEG-4, VP3 (Theora) and H.264. This tool can be useful for creating videos for iPod, iPhone, etc.

To install HandBrake on Ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04, run these commands from the Terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-snapshots
sudo apt-get update
sudo aptitude install handbrake-gtk

To start HandBrake, you can search it using the dash:



Or start it from the Terminal with this command:

ghb
