DesktopNova is an application that allows Ubuntu users to change desktop background images automatically after a specific period of time. You can select image files or select a single folder containing images.

To install DesktopNova on Ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04, launch the Terminal and run this command:

sudo apt-get install desktopnova desktopnova-module-gnome

To install also the DesktopNova Indicator, run these commands:

 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:michael-astrapi/ppa
 sudo apt-get update
 sudo apt-get install indicator-desktopnova

You can then start it via the dash:

In the main user interface (under the Images tab), use the Add button to add various image files from your hard drive, or click Add Folder and select the folder containing your wallpapers:

Under the Settings tab, check on Change wallpaper in intervals and set the period of time (in minutes) for each image to be displayed on your desktop.

In the same tab, click Modules and check on Gnome 0.2, then click OK:

Click now Start Daemon:

In the pop-up, window, click Yes to save changes.

Your desktop wallpaper will now change automatically after xx minutes.
