Basenji is a free media indexer that searches and sorts your data stored on removable media such as USB flash drives, CDs/DVDs, etc, to create searched indexes so that you can browse quickly the content of removable media without the need to connect them to your computer.

By creating virtual indexes of your removable media with Basenji, you will be able to search a specific file or directory more quickly among the many volumes you have, no need to waste your time plugging each removable media to your computer to search for a specific file.

To install Basenji on Ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04, launch the Terminal and issue these commands:

 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pulb/ppa
