aMule is a free peer-to-peer file sharing client that connects to Kad and eDonkey networks, the features of aMule are similar to that of eDonkey.

To install aMule on Ubuntu 11.04/10.10/10.04, launch the Terminal and issue this command:

 sudo apt-get install amule amule-utils amule-gnome-support

On your first use of aMule, kad and ed2k servers will be updated automatically. If the firewall blocks the application, then disable it or add a new rule in the configuration file of your firewall.

Also, if you connect to the Inetrnet via a router, you need to allow the following ports for your IP address:

  • 4665 UDP
  • 4672 UDP
