Picapy is a software written in Python that allows to manage your Picasa web photos and albums without using your web browser. Picapy (v1.7.4) operates as a classic photo manager. In this guide, we will see how to install Picapy on Ubuntu 10.04/10.10.

Picapy Installation

Launch the terminal and issue these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install picapy

After installing Picapy, launch it via Applications >> Internet >> Picapy. On your first use of Picapy, the Preferences window will pop-up, submit your Picasa account details (Email & Password), then click OK:

All your Picasa photos and albums will be now accessible via Picapy. You can easily add/remove images to your Picasa web album using the given buttons.

The only drawback with this software is the inability to use multiple Picasa accounts simultaneously. To sign in with a different Picasa account, consult Edit >> Preferences.
