In this guide, we will see how to use SoundConverter to convert audio files into other formats. SoundConverter is a sound converter designed for the GNOME environment. SoundConverter can convert the following media formats:
  • WAV
  • MP3
  • OGG
  • FLAC
  • AC
  • AAC (m4a)

To install SoundConverter (v1.5.3) on Ubuntu 10.04/10.10, launch the terminal and issue this command:

sudo apt-get install soundconverter

To start SoundConverter, open Applications >> Sound & Video >> Sound Converter.

Converting Media Files with SoundConverter

1. In the main interface of SoundConverter, click Add File. If your media files are stored in a folder, then click Add Folder.

2. Open now the media file you want to convert.

3. Click now Edit >> Preferences, select the format you want to convert your audio file into from the Format dropdown menu, then click Close.

4. Click now Convert.
